CosmoCaixa — Sep 5

On the first full day of our stay in Barcelona, we visited CosmoCaixa, arguably the best science museum in Spain. (According to many, though this is of course an opinion, not mine.) It was very impressive. The museum primarily focuses on biology, nature, astrology, and physics. We went around the open exhibit, some of which(mostly in the astrology section) required an extra fee to enter and we didn’t go to those.

Some highlights included:

  • A huge Newton’s Cradle.

  • A machine that generated a tornado, which we could touch.

  • Multiple replicas of prehistoric cavemen.

  • A model representing an ancient fire plow that we could actually use. Cavemen must have been very strong, because we had to alternate several times just to make a single spark!

  • A tour through a replica Amazon rainforest with real animals, excluding the more dangerous predators.

On the way out of the museum, I got stuck in a security machine and had to crawl under it. In the gift shop, Nate was playing with a pink squish-ball thing that popped and squirted him in the face with whatever liquid was inside of it.

Overall, this science museum was probably one of the best I have ever been to.

  1. I see you guys had a blast, and I love the photos and seeing you camouflaged among the Catalans. I’ll tell you that Barcelona is my favorite city in all of Spain; by the way, the Templars have a castle in Ponferrada, at the other end of Spain and very close to Galicia, Ribadavia, where your great-great-grandfather was born. Have fun 🤩
