Malaga Castles

The first castle we went to was on top of a whole mountain. It took around 10 minutes to climb it. The castle was so big it took hours to tour. It had a secret well. It was so deep a stick took 7 seconds to touch the bottom.

The second fort was way bigger than the other as it was more important. You could go to the dungeons if you paid some more money 💰 💸💵if you wanted to go down there so we didn’t.

Entrance Gateways

The first photo shows strong defensive stone walls, Roman-style columns reused in the structure, and tall arches. These were part of the castle’s multiple gates, designed to make it hard for invaders to get inside. Enemies had to pass through zig-zagging entrances while defenders attacked from above.

Gardens

The second photo highlights one of the inner courtyards with a fountain, trimmed hedges, and shady trees. This shows the palace side of the Alcazaba—designed not just for defense, but also as a luxurious residence for governors and nobles. Water features symbolized paradise in Islamic architecture

Walls

The third photo shows the high fortress walls and towers surrounded by tall cypress trees. From these towers, soldiers could watch over the city and the harbor below, protecting Málaga from attacks by land or sea.

The Alcazaba of Málaga is a mix of military fortress and palace, built by the Moors using both their own techniques and materials reused from Roman buildings. It has strong walls and gates for defense, but also peaceful gardens and fountains inside for comfort and beauty. Today, it gives us a glimpse of life in medieval Andalusia, where war and culture were closely linked.
